They could be sourced from the local The Good Will as they looked lived in. The location is fine. The editing is solid. The framing could have been a bit tighter. The cinematography is picturesque and not really creepy. The scares are more jump cuts. The aliens and the majority of the effects are CGI. They’re okay and at times you can clearly tell their CGI. There are a few times when the children are accosted by an invisible force. It looks like they’re on shaky wires rather than being held by a physical presence. Also, there are scenes where the children have glowing red-eyes, ala “Village of the Damned,” there I mentioned one. It also looks like a CGI effect and not a practical one.
The cast is amiable enough. I enjoyed the parents and they both turned in solid performances. The kids are fine. Daniel Escudero as Hector, Granny Inez’s grandson, is goofy and the brunt of a running joke. He feels a bit out of step with the rest of the cast. Veteran actress Patricia Rae plays Granny Inez.
