I’d say there’s a lot of exposition throughout the film, but with so much action, it’s difficult to discern from the video if you don’t receive an explanation of what’s going on. This decision by the film’s makers accentuates the sensation of being within a video game. There are several lengthy discussions when half of the material appears to be extraneous, yet the eyes love the breaks.
The action sequences are many and lengthy. While some are engaging and amazing, most are cliched and repetitive action scenes. Rather, it appears to be an experimental film in which they intended to experiment with the camera, perspectives, and video game format. It works well for a game, but not so well for a movie.
Because there is so much action, there is little time to develop the story without rushing it, and therefore the connection between the characters is lost. Carter deals with family issues, yet it is impossible to identify with the characters and even the protagonist owing to a lack of reasoning and honesty on everyone’s side. It isn’t until towards the conclusion that you notice a link between some characters, but even then, the protagonist remains aloof throughout the film.
